After a long and courageous battle with lung disease, Charles R. (Chuck) Smith, 79, of Carmel, IN, passed away on October 7, 2016 at home with his wife, Susan, by his side. He was born April 2, 1937 in Beech Grove, IN and preceded in death by his daughter, Lisa A. Smith. He is survived by his sister Helen Lombardo; children Cynthia (Gino) Lucchese, Lori Smith (Lynn Ralston), and Kristin (Greg) Bixler; his loving grandchildren Alexandria (Michael) Lucchese-Weidman, Brock Lucchese, and Graham, Preston, Bond, and Ross Bixler. The family gives a special thanks to his loving caretaker, Jan Fowler.
He was a Marine Corps veteran and a member of St. Luke’s UMC, Indpls. He had a lifelong career in the insurance business and was the owner of Smith & Bell Insurance Agency, Vincennes, IN. While in Vincennes, he served as Exalted Ruler of the B.P.O. Elks and was active in other civic clubs.
A memorial service will be held October 12, 2016 at St. Luke’s UMC, 100 W. 86th St., Indianapolis, IN 46260. Visitation is from 10:00-11:00 am, with the service starting at 11:00. A meal will take place directly after. In lieu of flowers please donate to The American Lung Association.
